Booking.com’s Travel Trends 2025 report has some disturbing news for couples. More than 20% of travellers from APAC are planning to leave their companions at home and embark on a solo trip in 2025.

The trend marks a quest for “freedom, self-discovery, and meeting new people along the way”, the OTA says.

And where will those solos travel? Nature-based escapes will be a big attraction.

Travellers from China, India and Australia are hearing the call of nature most clearly, whilst Thai and Singaporean travellers consider a relaxing holiday to be time spent with family.

**Highlights from**Booking.com’s Travel Trends 2025:

  • 77% of APAC travellers feel optimistic about travel in 2025 with relaxation and rejuvenation as primary motivators.

  • Across the region, dining emerges as the top spending priority for travellers. Notably, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japanese travellers identify themselves as the most enthusiastic foodies.

  • The Asia Pacific region stands out for its enthusiasm and readiness to harness AI’s potential in travel. According to Booking.com’s recently launched Global AI Sentiment Report, 95% of APAC consumers express excitement about AI and when it comes to travel, 75% have used AI – exceeding the global average of 64%.

  • Asia Pacific families plan to expand their travel group and embrace intergenerational travel, creating opportunities for richer connections and shared experiences across generations.

  • 47% of travellers highlighted the joy of bonding and creating lasting memories with loved ones, while 39% value reconnecting with family they don’t often meet.
