1 Hotels, the luxury lifestyle brand founded by hospitality champion Barry Sternlicht, has officially opened the brand’s first property in Japan.
Spanning the 38th through 43rd floors of Tokyo’s Akasaka Trust Tower, 1 Hotel Tokyo is a showcase of how “design excellence and sustainability can elevate one another at the highest level of luxury,” said Raul Leal, CEO of Starwood Hotels, which manages 1 Hotels.
The 211-key property anchors Tokyo World Gate Akasaka, a mixed-use hub that combines offices, retail, and culture. Iconic neighbourhoods such as Ginza, Roppongi, and Shibuya are easily accessible, while nearby shrines, parks and embassies give a mix of international presence and local character.
This philosophy extends to the property, designed as a calming retreat, and blending Japanese minimalism with modern comfort. Select rooms also deliver views of the Imperial Palace gardens and Tokyo’s skyline.
Greenery and nature-infused elements are central to the stay, across lush plantings throughout public spaces, wood ceiling details, as well as biophilic art made of preserved moss and recycled pallets across the rooms including 24 suites.
1 Hotel Tokyo has also achieved CASBEE S certification, Japan’s highest rating for environmental performance. Sustainability features include the use of reclaimed and local materials, refill stations to reduce single-use plastics, as well as complimentary use of the electric Audi Q6 e-tron for guests to explore the city on a zero-emission trip.
Wellness is another central sphere to the 1 Hotel Tokyo experience, delivered by the Bamford Wellness Spa which draws on ancient traditions and modern therapeutic approaches. Apart from local touches such as the Japanese bamboo massage and green tea healing facial, there’s also a 24-hour fitness zone which hosts fitness classes.
For dining, guests have three options. NiNi delivers a classic French framework through Japanese seasonality and sensibility; Spotted Stone stocks a collection of nearly 100 local craft gin varieties; while a grab-and-go café serves premium teas, artisan-brewed coffee, and items from popular local chain The Matcha Tokyo.
