Maldives recently welcomed Chinese cruise ship Viking Yidun, as the ship made its first visit to the island destination on 22 June with 700 tourists.

The luxury small ocean cruise ship – formerly the Viking Sun built in 2017 – is operated by Viking in a joint venture with China Merchants.

Docking in Malé, passengers were greeted with a local Boduberu cultural performance, along with destination materials and brand items.

The cruise ship’s arrival represents a step forward in Maldives' tourism diversification plan, and targeting high value international source markets while positioning the destination as a premier option for cruise travel.

Looking ahead, the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) together with the Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA) will continue to broaden international exposure for the destination, with a focus on cruise and yacht tourism.
