BELGRADE – Thiruvananthapuram in India is the place to go for a cheap holiday according to the latest Cost of Living Index from Belgrade-based Numbeo, a global leader in comparing cost of living worldwide.

And if it’s not Thiruvananthapuram - commonly known by its former name Trivandrum, capital city of the Indian state of Kerala - then two other Indian cities, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, are rated the lowest among 440 global cities tested for living costs, including rent, groceries and restaurant prices.

According to Numbeo, the most expensive city globally at the beginning of 2020 is Zurich  ahead of other cities in Switzerland: Basel, Lausanne, Geneva and  Bern.

New York in the United States is ranked 11th and San Francisco 12th. Sydney is ranked 37th globally.

Tokyo, ranked globally 18th, is the most expensive city in Asia.

Cities ranked highly were Seoul (25th globally, 3rd in Asia), Singapore (29-4), Osaka (33-6) and Hong Kong (44-8).

Other rankings: Bangkok (211 globaly-17 in Asia), Phnom Penh (253-30) Jakarta (265-33), Kuala Lumpur (280-35), Manila (309-44) and Ho Chi Minh City (321-46).
