Come September and Macau’s skies are painted with the crackle and colour of hundreds of fireworks.

This year the 30th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will feature not the usual ten, but 12 pyrotechnic teams to present their displays over six evenings.

The theme this year will be “Duo Celebrations for Macao” and the contest will run over local Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, until the October 1 Golden Week (September 7 to October 5).

Teams from around the world, including China, Japan and Korea, the Uk, France and Romania, Australia, Canada and South Africa will set the night skies alight in their bid to impress.

Spectators will be able to watch the displays from the Fireworks Carnival next to the Macau Tower, with snacks, workshops, games and performances happening at ground level. In addition, they will be able to vote for their favourite teams online, with the opportunity to win prizes in a lucky draw.

The shows will last 18 minutes each, and be designed to accompany the winning song from MGTO’s 2018 Songwriting Contest, “Light your Fire”.

During the festival, travellers keen to understand more about fireworks can attend a seminar at Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No. 2.

More workshops will take place at Anim’Arte NAM VAN. Also, on the agenda is the 4th Macau International Lantern Festival as well as Macau’s annual Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest, which will feature fireworks in art.
