Angry protestors have taken to the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia for a second night over the result of last month’s presidential election.
According to various media reports, protestors tore up bits of pavement, destroyed street signs and set fire to food stalls and security posts as they clashed with Indonesian security forces in the city.
Anies Baswedan, Jakarta’s governor, said that six people were killed during the first night of rioting, which was concentrated around the Tanah Abang area. Three local hospitals, too, have had to treat more than 350 people for injuries so far, according to Channel News Asia.
The unrest was sparked by an announcement on Tuesday by the General Election Commission, confirming the presidency of incumbent Joko Widodo.
Authorities say 40,000 police and soldiers have been put on duty across Jakarta to maintain security this week.
