Dubai may be best known for its luxury hotels, plush shopping malls and superyacht marinas, but the locals believe no visitor should leave town without tasting the food in Old Dubai.

The historic area’s diverse and unique culinary scene has been highlighted in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2025 awards.

Dubai’s dining scene is influenced by the tastes of nearly 200 nationalities represented within its resident population.

The oldest neighbourhoods, such as Bur Dubai and Deira, located along the Dubai Creek, are the best places to find authentic food and dine alongside locals.

Whether foodies opt for an organised tour with a guide, or choose to build their own itinerary, a culinary journey through the heart of Dubai’s cultural centre is a must.

Along with traditional Middle Eastern food served throughout Deira, the Deira Waterfront Market is a good spot for diners seeking fresh seafood.
