Dubai has launched a novel way of recharging its tourism sector after disruption caused by Middle East turmoil.

UAE residents and citizens are being encouraged to invite their families to visit Dubai with the promise that overseas guests will receive perks worth AED3,000 (US$816).

There has been an overwhelming response to the offer with 10,000 applications in the first 48 hours, requiring authorities to review the cap on the number of reward packages available.

The ‘Dubai Invite’ offers discounted hotel stays, transport services and attractions. Packages are available until 31 October.

The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism is calling on residents to become “ambassadors of the city by welcoming their loved ones to Dubai”.

Hotel partners include W Dubai Mina Seyahi, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi and Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Waterpark, Meliá Desert Palm and IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Nominees must live outside the UAE and guests must travel using a valid tourist visa or qualify for visa on arrival.
