Cambodia and China have launched a Tourism and Culture Year at a ceremony in Phnom Penh.

“The culture sector is an effective tool to develop the tourism sector,” said Cambodia’s prime minister, Hun Sen, in a message read at the event.

He said through China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Cambodia and China could jointly promote tourism and culture for mutual benefits.

Chinese Prime Minister Le Keqiang said in his message that the Chinese government would encourage more people to travel to Cambodia, adding that last year about 1.9 million Chinese visited the kingdom.

China is a significant trading partner for Cambodia and a driving force behind the kingdom’s development.
