Visitors heading to Macao in September can look forward to the 32nd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

Taking place from 7 September to 6 October, this year’s event may potentially be even more spectacular as it’s also celebrating the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR with an impressive lineup of fireworks displays.

Fireworks shows will be held above the sea near Macau Tower, scheduled for 7, 14, and 21 September, as well as 1 and 6 October. Each show will last 18 minutes and begin at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Ten international pyrotechnic companies from countries including Russia, France, Canada, Thailand, Spain, the Philippines, China, Italy, Japan, and Portugal will showcase their artistry.

To ensure the best viewing experience, MGTO suggests five prime locations:

  1. The area between Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and Kun Iam Statue Waterfront
  2. Macao Science Center waterfront
  3. Avenida de Sagres near Mandarin Oriental
  4. Anim’Arte NAM VAN
  5. Avenida do Oceano in Taipa

In addition to the fireworks, the event will feature a Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest, organised by the Photographic Society of Macao and Macau Artist Society. Participants can also engage in an online interactive game through the WeChat mini-program “MGTO’s Interactive Zone” for a chance to win prizes.

The Fireworks Carnival, hosted at Macao Science Center waterfront from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on each fireworks night, will offer food, entertainment, and games.
