After eight months of inactivity, Mt Everest sightseeing flights have resumed due to strong demand from both locals and foreigners residing in Nepal, according to a report by Kathmandu Post.
Both Yeti Airlines and Buddha Air have launched one-for-one mountain flight deals to stimulate the market, the planes pegged to fly once a week on Saturday. Frequencies might increase based on demand.
Such scenic flights of the Himalayan mountains, flying from Kathmandu, have been a major source of revenue for domestic airlines. These flights were closed since the government announced the nationwide lockdown on March 24, halting all flights, except for emergency purposes.
Domestic airlines used to take at least 10 rounds of Mt Everest pleasure flights daily during peak seasons.
According to Buddha Air's website, the months between September to April are the best times to catch a glimpse of the majestic peaks.
"Take the mother of all mountain flights," the airline stated on its website, "The Everest Experience where we put you, one on one with Mt. Everest, so close that you can almost touch it".
