Women today are travelling with purpose, seeking empowerment, connection and a sense of rejuvenation. A new report by Citizen Femme and Globetrender shows that women are poised to become an even stronger drive force in the global tourism market between 2025 and 2030.

In Asia, Macao has emerged as a destination that resonates with the priorities of female travellers. Stylish yet safe, compact yet full of discovery, the city appeals equally to solo adventurers and groups of girlfriends in search of a meaningful escape. With the rise of the “she-economy”, Macao’s combination of cultural immersion, luxury experiences, and wellness escapes offer travel consultants endless opportunities to craft experiences that resonate with this influential segment.

Walking Macao in her shoes

For women travelling alone or in small groups, feeling secure is the foundation of a great trip. Studies highlight that safety remains the top concern for more than 60% female travellers. Macao’s compact scale makes getting around easy – the streets are well lit, English, Cantonese, and Mandarin are widely spoken, and efficient transportation methods are always at hand. Its reputation for attentive hospitality and reliable accommodation adds another layer of reassurance.

The city also offers effortless access to its attractions. UNESCO heritage sites like the Ruins of St. Paul’s sit just steps from Michelin-recommended street eats like Lok Kei Noodles and Ving Kei tofu pudding, while shopping streets, cultural festivals, and buzzing cocktail bars are never far from tranquil wellness retreats. For solo visitors, this means the freedom to explore the city without logistical stress; for friends travelling together, it offers a playground of discoveries to share.

Holistic havens for mind-body reset

Wellness has become a leading reason women pack their bags, and Macao’s spa and fitness scene is keeping pace with this demand. At the Four Seasons Macao, the Fit & Fabulous Retreat introduced in 2025 combines restorative spa treatments with yoga sessions, nutritionist-designed meals, and sound-healing workshops for a complete mind-body reset.

Other resorts highlight Macao’s growing reputation as a wellness hub. The Spa at Grand Lisboa Palace blends traditional rituals with modern therapies. Conrad Macao’s Bodhi Spa, with its oversized suites, is a favourite for groups of friends looking to unwind together. Wynn Palace takes things further with Blanc de Vie, the city’s first Korean medical-aesthetic centre, offering dermatology and preventive health treatments alongside its EliteKinesio Health & Wellness Centre, which focuses on kinesiology and physiotherapy.

Shop, snap & savour

Food, shopping, and nightlife are all part of the Macao experience, and the city delivers on every front. Shopping caters to every mood, from luxury boutiques inside the new cultural and lifestyle landmark, M8, just 50m from Senado Square, to independent ateliers in Taipa Village where you can find Portuguese-inspired ceramics and local crafts.

Nineteen restaurants earned Michelin stars in 2025, including new arrivals Zuicho, Aji, and Mizumi. Local female chefs are adding their own voice too: Antonieta Fernandes Manhão, better known as Chef Neta, introduces visitors to Macanese cuisine through cooking classes and explores Portuguese-Chinese heritage with menus rooted in family tradition.

After the sun sets, evenings can be glamorous or low-key: cocktail lounges and rooftop bars with skyline views, or cultural wanderings through the Historic Centre of Macao. The city has also carved out space for women in its nightlife, hosting events like Women’s Bartender Week at The St. Regis Bar, alongside countless ladies’ nights and Instagrammable bars to explore.

Packing confidence, wellness and culture

What makes Macao so appealing is how easily it adapts to different styles of travel. A solo visitor might begin with a morning spa ritual at the Four Seasons, wander through the Senado Square in the afternoon, then enjoy dinner at the Michelin-starred Wing Lei before capping the night with cocktails at Blind Tiger overlooking the Cotai Strip.

Groups of friends might take a different route – starting the day with yoga, moving on to a shared spa experience at Bodhi Spa at Conrad Macao, then learning Macanese cooking together before heading to the House of Dancing Water to catch the mesmerising aquatic show at City of Dreams. Whether the day ends with wine tasting or rooftop cocktails, the itinerary flows naturally between wellness, culture, and indulgence.
