As the summer holiday season winds down, a resurgence in travel and
adventure has emerged despite economic uncertainties and global events. A
recent study by Europ Assistance, the parent company of InsureandGo,
investigates the travel behaviors of Australians, Europeans, Americans,
and Canadians through the 2023 Holiday Barometer, a global survey
involving 15,000 participants across 15 countries.
The study highlights distinct differences among these regions:
- Australian enthusiasm: Australians, known for their
travel passion, displayed a strong commitment to exploration. Only 32%
were willing to sacrifice their summer vacations to save money.
- Generous budgets: Australians had the highest
summer holiday budgets, averaging US$4602, surpassing the budgets of
Americans, Canadians, and Europeans.
- Extended getaways: Australians enjoyed longer
vacations, averaging 2.1 weeks, compared to Europeans (1.9 weeks),
Canadians (1.8 weeks), and Americans (1.6 weeks).
- Travel attitudes: Australians were the least likely
to choose a closer destination due to inflation, with only 23% opting
for proximity. In contrast, Europeans (29%), Americans (26%), and
Canadians (27%) were more willing to stay closer to home to save money.
- Budget-consciousness: Australians were resilient
travellers, with 32% willing to forgo travel to save money, falling
between Americans (37%) and Europeans (27%) in budget consciousness,
while Canadians were the most budget-conscious at 40%.
These findings emphasise Australians' unwavering commitment to travel
and their love for adventure, even in the face of economic pressures,
setting them apart on the global travel stage.
