Cambodia has conducted a trial run of a passenger train service from Phnom Penh to the Thai border – a route that is due to open later this year.
"From now on, passengers can travel by train from Phnom Penh to Poipet city for the first time in 45 years," said Sun Chanthol, minister of public works and transportation, referring to a Cambodian border town.
Full service will materialise in the near future, he added.
The railway, along with another in the south west of the country, was destroyed during Cambodia’s civil war, the Bangkok Post reported.
The project's goal is to eventually connect Bangkok and Phnom Penh.
