Visitors to the United Arab Emirates now have a new way of getting around the country with the launch of Etihad Rail passenger services.

The UAE’s first public passenger service launches 30 June, offering three non-stop round trips per day initially between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with a journey time of 1 hour 59 minutes.

A single journey costs AED 55 (US$15) in comfort class and AED 120 in premium class. Passengers pay extra for seat selections.

Customers will be able to book journeys and purchase tickets through a range of channels, including the Etihad Rail mobile application.

The passenger train stations will also offer a comprehensive hospitality experience through cafés, restaurants, retail outlets, in addition to onboard dining options.

Separately, the UAE will expand visa on arrival from 25 July for eligible citizens of six countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa.

Along with their accompanying family members, travellers are eligible to obtain a 14-day or 60-day visa on arrival, provided they hold a valid residence permit issued by the US, a EU member state, the UK, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada.
