Minor Hotels is expanding its presence in India with the signing of two properties under its Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand, marking the brand’s first resort and first urban hotel in the country.

Minor aims to seal at least six further projects in India this year.

“India for us is very exciting, more so with what’s happening in the Middle East. You have such powerful inbound travel, like China,” said William E. Heinecke, founder and chairman, Minor International.

Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort, situated near Madikeri in Karnataka’s UNESCO-recognised Western Ghats, is slated to open in 2028.

The 69-key property is designed by Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte and draws on Coorg’s coffee heritage and Kodava culture.

The resort, owned by Zanti Hospitality, will be operated by Anantara as part of a management contract.

The second signing, Anantara Kolkata Hotel, is expected to open in 2032 as part of the World Trade Centre Salt Lake development.

The 170-key urban property – a joint venture between Aryan Realty and Merlin Group – will serve Kolkata’s growing business and MICE market.

Both signings follow the 2025 debut of Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur and are part of Minor Hotels’ broader India strategy, which targets 50 properties over the next decade across leisure, urban, and tier-two and tier-three city locations.

Minor’s expansion strategy includes a mix of luxury and premium brands such as Anantara, Avani, and NH Collection, alongside select-service offerings NH, Oaks and iStay.
