The Ascott Limited has partnered with SG Enable to improve
accessibility and inclusion for disabled guests across its properties.
This collaboration, a first of its scale in Singapore's hospitality
industry, will implement several key initiatives to enhance the stay
experience for persons with disabilities.
Ascott plans to refurbish at least one property in Singapore with new
accessibility features by the end of 2024. These enhancements will be
guided by SG Enable's Design for Inclusive Spaces playbook and may
include features such as nooks with soft padding to reduce noise for
guests with autism or hearing disabilities. In-room amenities like touch
lamps, toilet chairs, and assistive technology will also be introduced
to improve the stay experience for disabled guests.
The company's Ascott Orchard Singapore property already showcases
some of these inclusive design elements. It features sheltered walkways
linked to adjacent buildings, clear signage with braille and tactile
maps, accessible guestrooms for wheelchair users, and dual-key units for
multi-generational living. The property also offers an accessible
swimming pool deck and a messaging platform to facilitate communication
with guests who have hearing or visual impairments.
Additionally, Ascott will develop inclusive programmes catering to
persons with disabilities, with the first such programme slated to roll
out in Singapore this year.
Beh Siew Kim, chief financial & sustainability officer at Ascott,
emphasized the company's commitment "to strengthening Ascott's culture
of care and respect by cultivating a more inclusive operating
environment for both guests and associates."
