The caretakers of Wat Nong Yai, a century-old temple in Pattaya, Thailand, has a problem on their hands — a sticky one, to be exact.
Local government officials in Chon Buri, where the temple is located, have been receiving complaints about tourists, mostly Chinese and Vietnamese, affixing stickers on the premises of Wat Nong Yai. According to Bangkok Post, the tourists believe that doing so will bring them good luck in life.
The source of the false information comes from the tour guides themselves. Before leaving the temple premises, some tour guides would tell tourists to leave these white, round-shaped stickers on trees and, in many cases, even pillars of the main hall.
Thongdi Saeli, a caretaker at the temple, said that staff have been trying to remove the stickers. In fact, they have gone as far as setting aside a designated board for tourists to place their stickers. However, these efforts have been largely ignored, and the staff simply cannot keep pace with the large number of foreign visitors who visit the temple each day.
