The 80-year-old attraction will close on August 31, with its 1,000 plus animals to be relocated temporarily to six public zoos for three years until the construction of the new zoo at Klong 6 in Pathum Thani province is complete, Bangkok Post reported.

Bangkok’s famed Dusit Zoo is preparing to shutter its gates for good at the end of the month as it awaits the construction of a new zoo.

The 80-year-old attraction will close on August 31, with its 1,000 plus animals to be relocated temporarily to six public zoos for three years until the construction of the new zoo at Klong 6 in Pathum Thani province is complete, Bangkok Post reported.

Director of Dusit Zoo Pitak Unson said that there will be neither a special event nor a farewell party on its final day.

Over the past month, the zoo has seen visitor figures almost doubling as people flock to experience the attraction’s final moments at its current location.

While most of the zoo's 300 employee's will retain their jobs, all have been ordered to move along with the animals -- initially to temporary facilities and then to Pathum Thani.
