In a bid to forecast and analyse the rapidly evolving landscape of travel and technology, SITA has revealed pivotal insights in their "Meet the Megatrends" report. The report delves into 12 game-changing trends that will revolutionise the travel domain by 2033.

Technology's changing role

Generative AI, a standout in 2023, grabbed airlines' attention, surpassing previous tech interests like metaverse. Airlines and airports are keen on urban air mobility, expected to launch flights in 2024, with investments predicted to skyrocket to US$28 billion by 2030.

The biggest shifting trends in travel and air transport

Digital changes

Digital travel saw major shifts, especially with the rise of digital identities. SITA forecasts 82% of airlines adopting biometric-enabled digital IDs for boarding by 2026, and a further 67% confirmed using touchless and 50% single token.

Generative AI in focus

AI's growth is evident, with 86% of airlines working on AI, machine learning, and computer vision. Around 39% have implemented AI, and 47% plan to by 2026.

Urban air mobility's growth

Urban air mobility is booming due to demand for short routes, better electric systems, and environmental concerns. Paris might see electric air taxis during the 2024 Olympics.
