Emirates and Etihad Airways are offering insurance covers for international visitors, as the UAE seeks to reassure travellers following the Iran-US war.

“Listening to customer feedback, we realised that travel demand remains strong but there was a gap in the market with regards to travel insurance cover,” said Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates.

On 12 June, Etihad Airways announced its partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi to provide complimentary medical travel insurance, with every qualifying Etihad ticket.

Coverage is provided by The National Insurance Company – Daman, covering eligible visitors for up to 15 days in the UAE.

Apart from ensuring the point of origin and point of sale is outside the UAE, travellers using Etihad’s complimentary stopover programme are also eligible.

Validity runs from July through December 2026. No formal application is required.

About a week later, Emirates also announced a new travel insurance policy covering international travellers – with an additional layer of conflict-related medical protection.

Backed by Travel Guard, its comprehensive Travel Cover includes trip cancellations, baggage delay or loss, unlimited medical expense and emergency evacuation.

New benefits include reimbursement for medical expenses of up to US$ 25,000 and a free trip extension of up to 30 days that holds – regardless of government travel advisories.

Additionally in the event of disrupted flights including airspace closures, Emirates will provide airline-managed hotel accommodation, and rebook passengers onto other airlines at no additional cost should Emirates services be unavailable due to conflict-related cancellations.

Emirates passengers can purchase the policy during bookings or add to existing reservations. The insurance is initially available in selected markets, including Singapore and New Zealand in Asia-Pacific.

Speaking at the ILA Berlin Air Show, Clark added that “we will introduce all sorts of incentives other than price that will attract the passengers back”.
