Vietnam’s Sun PhuQuoc Airways flew its first service to Taipei, Taiwan on 29 March, marking a step forward in international expansion plans targeting seven markets in 2026.
The Phu Quoc–Taipei Taoyuan route operates five times weekly, on the Airbus A321neo, which includes economy and business class seats. Its maiden return flight carried over 200 passengers from Taiwan to Phu Quoc onboard the full-service carrier.
A Sun executive lounge was also launched at Phu Quoc International Airport on 1 April.
Parent company Sun Group said that Vietnam received some 1.2 million visitors from Taiwan in 2025, ranking them among the country’s top inbound markets.
However, arrivals to Phu Quoc have yet to match this potential due to limited direct connectivity.
To that end, Sun Group has tapped on its travel and real estate ecosystem to offer airline passengers up to 30% off accommodation, dining, and entertainment services.
Additionally on the infrastructure front, Phu Quoc International Airport is set for a major expansion following a strategic agreement between Sun Group and Changi Airports International to develop Vietnam’s first integrated “airport destination”.
Looking ahead in 2026, the airline plans to operate nine international routes connecting Phu Quoc with major Asian hubs, including Bangkok, Busan, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, New Delhi, Seoul and Singapore.
Sun Group added that despite ongoing volatility in the aviation market, the airline is focusing on markets showing “strong demand and high growth potential”.
