With its inaugural flight on April 1 from Singapore to Laos, Scoot’s network has officially reached 67 destinations across 19 countries, also anchoring the low-cost carrier as the only airline offering direct Singapore-Laos services.
The routes were in fact initially borne by sister airline SilkAir – the regional wing of Singapore Airlines – but has since been transferred to Scoot. Operating on A320 aircraft, the three-times weekly flights will go on a circular route departing first to Luang Prabang, then Vientiane, before returning to Singapore.
Shares Mr Vinod Kannan, Scoot’s chief commercial officer, “Laos is a hidden gem that is yet to be discovered by many and is the ideal destination for people looking to escape from the concrete jungle”.
For its maiden flights to Luang Prabang and Vientiane, the touchdowns were celebrated with the traditional water cannon salute at both airports, where five lucky passengers on board won prizes including a S$100 (US$73.70) Scoot travel voucher, Scoot travel organiser, Laos travel guide, Scoot-in-Style lounge access, and a Scoot nano brick aircraft and control tower playset.
One-way economy fly fares to Luang Prabang and Vientiane start from S$125 and S$100 respectively, with all taxes included.
