A passenger on a United Airlines flight waiting to take off from San Francisco International Airport, bound for Cancun in Mexico, was escorted off the flight after smoking marijuana in a bathroom at the front of the aircraft.

As a result, the captain refused to fly the aircraft, citing exposure to second hand smoke, which resulted in  a long delay for passengers while United found a new crew.

According to the aviation newswire, Simple Flying, The US Federal Aviation Authority doesn’t actively seek to remove marijuana from passenger bags, but if it is in plain sight or used in airport spaces, they will take action.

Regardless of marijuana being an illegal substance, smoking on aircraft has been banned for decade.
