Singapore has launched daily flights to Shanghai and Hangzhou, China, betting on strong demand supoorted by visa-free travel between the two destinations.

Since 10 June, Shanghai Airlines now operates daily flights between Singapore Changi Airport and Shanghai Pudong Airport, on the B737 Max 8 aircraft which offers eight business class seats and 168 economy class seats.

Singapore Airlines inaugurated daily services from Singapore to Hangzhou on 1 June, served by the Airbus A350-900 which offers 40 business class seats and 263 in economy class.

This marks SIA’s ninth destination in China, and SIA group’s 22nd destination in mainland China when combined with Scoot, the airline’s low-cost subsidiary.

“The launch of services to Hangzhou caters to demand from both leisure and business travellers to China,” said Dai Haoyu, senior VP marketing planning, Singapore Airlines, which now operates 112 weekly flights to China from Singapore.

Passenger flow has recovered to 115% from pre-pandemic levels on the Singapore-China route, in comparison to 59% on China-Thailand routes.
