Ita Airways has joined the Star Alliance global airline network, becoming its 26th member on 1 April.
Italy’s flag carrier flies over 16 million customers annually and will add more than 350 daily flights to the alliance network through its membership.
Rome Fiumicino Airport and Milan Linate Airport are served collectively by 17 Star Alliance members, giving travellers access to more than 1,150 destinations worldwide.
“With Ita Airways on board, we not only expand our network to and from Italy, but also elevate the connected experience of our customers when travelling across multiple airlines, through access to the world’s largest network of airport lounges, more comprehensive loyalty benefits, and other benefits like baggage tracking, all designed to enhance the journey at every step,” said Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias.
The airline’s entry was officiated during a ceremony held at the Piazza di Spagna Lounge in Rome Fiumicino Airport Terminal 3. In attendance were Ita Airways CEO and GM Joerg Eberhart, Star Alliance CEO Panagiotoulias, and Lufthansa Group chief commercial officer Dieter Vranckx, alongside media and institutional guests.
Ita Airways commenced flights in 2021 after replacing the previous flag carrier, Alitalia. It is 59% state-owned, with co-owner Lufthansa Group having acquired its stake in January 2025.
