Singapore Airlines subsidiary Scoot is expected to be the beneficiary of the decision by Indonesia AirAsia to dump its daily non-stop Singapore-Jakarta flight from July 2026, instead offering a one-stop service via Kuala Lumpur.
As a result of the move, Indonesia AirAsia passengers travelling between Singapore and Jakarta will have to transit through Kuala Lumpur starting in July.
AirAsia X group chief executive Bo Lingam said the move would allow AirAsia to optimise its network by reallocating its capacity to stronger-performing routes, as higher jet fuel prices brought on by the Middle East conflict had driven the low-cost carrier to suspend some flights.
AirAsia has also cited high fees at Changi with airport taxes higher than the average base fare as the reason for cutting Singapore-Jakarta flights.
The Jakarta suspension is the latest sign of Indonesia AirAsia’s shrinking footprint in Singapore and the region.
In July 2026, Scoot will have a 30% share of Singapore-Indonesia seat capacity, up from 20% in July 2025, based on OAG data.
