It’s almost time to draw the shades in Bali. The island’s Holy Day of Silence – Nyepi – will be observed on 19 March.

Keen observance of the most spiritually significant day of the year for Balinese Hindus brings the island to a standstill.

The lights go out. Families stay indoors. Tourists are restricted to their hotels and villas. And there’s no TV.

Denpasar Airport closes and transit passengers must remain within the terminal.

But, there will be one significant change this year.  Unlike in previous years, only the mobile signal will be cut.

At home, Wi-Fi will be available; unless, of course properties or villages turn the power off at the mains.
