Royal Caribbean Group’s Silversea Cruises is kicking off its
inaugural voyage of new ship Silver Endeavour with a swell selection of
experts who will enrich guests’ experience as they journey through the
White Continent from King George Island on 21 November 2022.
Guests on board Silver Endeavour can expect the company of qualified
historians, marine biologists, anthropologists, naturalists, filmmakers,
among others, who will give informative lectures and workshops, and
guide excursions in the seven-day fly-cruise sailing.
They would also experience the Antarctic Sound, and be greeted by
towering ice formations as they approach the northernmost point of the
Antarctic Peninsula, where vast penguin colonies and other wildlife
species, including whales, various other bird species, and seals live.
In the Silversea-curated package, guests would be flown via chartered
DAP Antarctic Airways into the continent and sail from the island.
Also joining Silver Endeavour's inaugural sailing is Conrad Combrink,
Silversea’s SVP expedition, destination and itinerary management, who
will be marking his 78th journey to the Antarctic.
Captain Peterstam, who has served aboard the ship since September
2021, would be the ship’s Master for her inaugural season, along with
senior officers and an experienced crew.
The Silversea Cruises expedition would be led by Marieke Egan, whose
team will embark the ship ahead of her maiden sailing and will remain on
board throughout the inaugural Antarctica season.
Having perfected glacier crossings in the Swiss Alps, Egan’s
adventurous spirit has seen her win medals for speed skating, trek
through the Nepal Himalayas and High Andes in South America, and pilot
4WD tours in Australia.
She leads cruise expedition in the Antarctic, Seychelles, Indonesia,
the Pacific Islands, High Arctic’s Greenland, Svalbard and the Russian
Far East.
Meanwhile, cruise guests can listen to lectures on Ernest Shackleton
and the HMS Endeavour by Nicholas Crane, former President of the Royal
Geographical Society.
Crane has hosted BBC2 TV series such as Map Man, Great British
Journeys, Town, Britannia and Coast, as well as been a lead presenter in
over 80 BBC films.
