Royal Caribbean Group has unveiled plans to install high-speed
broadband internet services for all its current and future ships.
The move is touted as a cruise industry first for Royal Caribbean
Group, which will see all Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity
Cruises and Silversea Cruises ships implemented with SpaceX’s Starlink
satellite internet access by the end of 1Q 2023.
An earlier trial deployment onboard Freedom of the Seas has “received
a tremendous amount of positive feedback from guests and crew", leading
Royal Caribbean Group to now adopt high-speed, low-latency connectivity
across its fleet.
Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, said:
“This technology will provide game-changing internet connectivity
onboard our ships, enhancing the cruise experience for guests and crew
alike. It will improve and enable more high-bandwidth activities like
video streaming as well as activities like video calls."
Royal Caribbean's announcement has already received much fanfare from
SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who wrote on Twitter: “Kickass internet
connection coming Royal Caribbean ships soon!”
