Expect more open spaces, unbridled ocean views and star-packed power when Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Cruises' newest ship in the Edge series, debuts in April 2022.
During the APAC virtual launch of Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Cruises president and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo gave a Zoom preview of the upcoming ship together with its designers, architects and star collaborators, including Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud and Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
Building upon the features of sisters Celebrity Edge (launched in 2018) and Celebrity Apex (launched in 2020), architect Tom Wright has lengthened Celebrity Beyond by 20m and lifted the ship's height to 17 decks.
As a result, the 330m-long vessel will boast a redesign “beyond expectations, beyond imagination”, Lutoff-Perlo had stated in a release. "Celebrity Beyond shatters any and every preconceived notion of the cruising experience."
"With Celebrity Beyond, we saw an opportunity to take the extraordinary features of Celebrity Edge – like the focus on the connection with the ocean and the grand spaces – and really amplify them," said Richard Fain, chairman of Royal Caribbean Group, parent company of Celebrity Cruises. "We focused on providing more openness, height and spaciousness throughout the ship's most popular spaces. The end result is a next generation ship that embodies the intersection of architecture and design."
Celebrity Beyond's expanded Rooftop Garden will be 40% bigger than other Edge ships
The Retreat, a resort-within-a-resort area designed by Kelly Hoppen for suite guests, now features a new two-storey sundeck; and two-storey villas come with private plunge pools and staterooms with infinite verandas with boundaries between indoor and outdoor living blurred.
Celebrity Beyond’s Rooftop Garden is also 40% bigger than other Edge ships and boasts the Resort Deck featuring cantilevered float pools, sunken seating areas and plenty of fluid spaces. There is also the Sunset Bar by Nate Berkus, a Moroccan-inspired venue with cascading terraces on the ship’s aft.
Le Voyage will be the 50-seat fine-dining restaurant by Daniel Boulud, with a menu based on the region the ship is sailing to and a decor by Paris-based Jouin Manku.
Luminaire, at the front of the ship, is a private restaurant with seats set among lantern-like screens. The Magic Carpet, which debuted on Celebrity Edge, is an open-air cantilevered platform suspended from the ship’s side for guests to enjoy cocktails and dinners with uninterrupted vistas.
At the ship’s atrium, the redesigned Grand Plaza spans three decks around the circular Martini Bar and an LED chandelier centrepiece to offer an open-air feel in an indoor space.
The Sunset Bar is a Moroccan-inspired venue with cascading terraces on the ship’s aft.
Novel amenities are AquaClass SkySuites that will be offered as part of Celebrity Beyond’s new partnership with Gwyneth Paltrow, who is named the line's new well-being advisor. All Aqua Class guests across the entire Celebrity Cruises fleet (excluding Galapagos sailings) will be treated to onboard wellness offerings, including fitness kits from Paltrow's modern lifestyle brand goop. Paltrow and her team at goop will also curate onboard wellness programming and participate in the line's new Women in Wellness initiative.
The ship will have 179 additional staterooms and suites alongside 1,400 crew members, representing a high guest-crew ratio, shared Tim Jones, Celebrity Cruises' vice president & managing director, Australia & APAC, during the virtual presentation.
The Celebrity Beyond will begin her maiden journey from Southhampton, the UK on 27 April 2022, visiting Bordeaux, France; Lisbon; Portugal; and Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain on a 10-night Western Europe Cruise. She will then continue her summer sailings in the Mediterranean before repositioning in the Caribbean come fall.
Bookings are now open for Celebrity Beyond.
