Travellers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are looking for more than just sightseeing in 2025—they’re chasing shared, immersive experiences that connect them with others and enrich their journeys. Skyscanner’s latest report reveals key trends across several categories, offering insights into what experiences will resonate most with APAC travellers next year.
Astro-tourism: Shooting for the stars
One of the most prominent trends for 2025 is the rising interest in astro-tourism. Travellers are increasingly drawn to the night sky, with 48% of APAC respondents expressing a desire to chase the Northern Lights on their next holiday. This experience is particularly appealing to travellers from Australia (58%) and Singapore (57%). Alongside this, night sky photography is a growing trend, especially in India, where 56% of respondents said they’re interested in capturing celestial moments through the lens.
Beyond just observing the stars, 37% of APAC respondents are excited about sleeping under the stars, adding a sense of adventure to their holiday. Observatories are also attracting attention, with 35% of respondents keen on visiting one during their travels.
Nature and garden tourism: Petals, parks, and perfect Views
Nature continues to play a significant role in travel choices, especially as travellers seek ways to reconnect with the environment. Garden tourism is a major draw, with 74% of APAC travellers expressing interest in visiting gardens during their trips. Indian respondents lead the charge, with 90% saying they enjoy this type of holiday experience. In Singapore, 74% of travellers are similarly inclined, while Japan follows closely at 67%.
Natural landscapes are also a major factor influencing destination choice, with 55% of APAC travellers considering it a top priority. Cherry blossom season is another much-anticipated natural experience, with 57% of respondents keen to witness it in 2025, particularly in Singapore (65%) and Australia (59%).
Wellness tourism: Turning holidays into health retreats
Wellness-focused holidays are another growing trend, as more travellers seek experiences that help them recharge physically and mentally. Over a third of APAC respondents (36%) emphasise the importance of maintaining health and wellness during their holidays. India stands out, with 57% of its travellers prioritising wellness, followed by Singapore at 42%. These travellers are not just looking to relax but to improve their resilience and sense of purpose, with 75% of APAC respondents stating that holidays help them better manage stress upon returning home.
Travellers are also showing an interest in visiting Blue Zones—regions known for the longevity and health of their populations. A strong 64% of APAC travellers find the idea of visiting such places inspiring for making lifestyle changes, with Indian respondents once again leading the way at 89%.
Sports and gaming tourism: Game, set, travel
Sports tourism is on the rise, with more travellers looking to combine their love of sports with their holiday plans. While domestic sporting events remain popular in Japan and South Korea, India is leading the way in international sports tourism, with 31% of respondents planning to travel abroad for a sporting event in 2025. Younger age groups are driving this trend, with 33% of those aged 18-24 and 35% of those aged 25-34 eager to attend events abroad.
Gaming tourism is also making waves. Half of all APAC respondents said they feel inspired to visit a location they’ve seen in a video game. India is a key market for this trend, with 88% of respondents indicating interest, particularly among younger travellers aged 18-24. This group is also more likely to bring gaming consoles on holiday, with 67% of Indian respondents doing so.
