A new report from Skyscanner shows that 8 in 10 travellers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region plan to travel as much or more in 2025 than they did in 2024. The Skyscanner Horizons report surveyed 19,000 consumers globally, with 6,000 respondents from APAC countries including Australia, India, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.
Other insights by Skyscanner include:
Increased travel spending: 72% of APAC travellers plan to spend the same or more on flights in 2025, with similar numbers for accommodation (71%) and car hire (46%).
India leads the way: Indian travellers are set to spend the most, with a high demand for travel upgrades like seat selection, better food, and larger hotel rooms.
Safety concerns: Safety remains a key factor, especially for travellers from Singapore (67%), India (60%), and South Korea (64%), who are cautious about visiting lesser-known destinations.
Food matters: 67% of APAC travellers say food is a top priority when choosing where to go, followed by weather, natural scenery, and cultural attractions.
AI travel planning: 46% of APAC respondents feel confident using AI tools for travel planning, with popular uses including researching destinations and building itineraries.
Hugh Aitkens, VP of Strategic Relations and Development at Skyscanner, said, “Travel demand remains resilient, and travellers are adapting their plans as they seek out collective experiences. This blend of resilience and innovation looks set to make next year transformative for all.”
The report also highlights the rising popularity of off-the-beaten-path destinations, such as Dayong in China and Shillong in India, which have seen a surge in search interest.
