With the global travel recovery underway, many travel businesses are looking at implementing innovative customer experiences to get an edge over their competitors. Capitalising on the chatbot trend this year, Trip.com has launched TripGen, a chatbot built on OpenAI's ChatGPT architecture, to provide live assistance to travellers.

By using advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology, TripGen is designed to offer users personalised travel routes, itineraries, and booking advice in real-time. This means that users can ask complex or vague questions and get the exact answers they need to "Generate Your Dream Trip Just Like That."

The aim of TripGen is to make travel more accessible than ever, and it forms part of the company's all-in-one app strategy. Trip.com has been offering personalised search solutions for flights, hotels, and travel guides for some time, and TripGen is designed to take this capability one step further. By offering an advanced chatbot that is integrated with NLP, the platform aims to provide stress-free travel planning and booking experiences for its users.

One of the challenges that travellers face is deciding where to go and what to do when planning their trip. With TripGen, users can enter any fragmented travel-related questions and receive instant suggestions for pre-trip decisions and in-trip arrangements, from flights and hotels to transportation and tours. This makes the entire process enjoyable and stress-free.

Amy Wei, senior product director at Trip.com Group and product owner of TripGen, shared her experience as a frequent traveller and empathised with the pain points and difficulties in preparing for a trip. By integrating AI technology, Amy and her team aimed to solve the complex and stressful process of planning and preparing for a trip, providing efficient and valuable real-time assistance.

Schubert Lou, COO of Trip.com, sees TripGen as a step towards becoming a trusted trip companion. By providing real-time question-and-answer services, TripGen offers greater, faster, and more diverse support for travellers. Currently supporting English, Japanese, Korean, and traditional Chinese, TripGen will add more languages depending on user needs.

Moreover, the technical side of TripGen integrates the OpenAI API, the same architecture that powers ChatGPT. This enables the chatbot to communicate in a more natural and human-like manner, making the travel planning experience even more personable.

As travel companies strive to offer innovative and efficient solutions to customers, it's no surprise that chatbots are gaining popularity. TripGen is an example of how this technology can be used to provide personalised and stress-free travel planning and booking experiences.
