SHANGHAI — Further to the Group’s statement on 23 January to allow cancellation waivers to  reservations for hotels in China, Trip.com has extended this ‘Cancellation Guarantee’ initiative to include bookings beyond Chinese borders.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to these hotels for their staunch support and commitment. In view of the recent developments, including the spread of the virus within China and other countries, it is necessary to expand the initiative and include hotels in other markets,– Ray Chen, CEO of accommodation business at Trip.com Group

On Jan 25, cancellation waivers were offered to about 30,000 global hotels outside of China booked through Trip.com Group’s Ctrip platform before Jan 24, for check-in dates through Feb 8, 2020. Joining this initiative are global hotelier partners the likes of Shangri-La, Intercontinental Hotel Group, Hyatt, Hilton, Accor, Marriott, Melia Hotels International and more, in a joint measure to better serve customers requesting for changes due to the still escalating coronavirus outbreak in China.

"We would like to express our deepest gratitude to these hotels for their staunch support and commitment. In view of the recent developments, including the spread of the virus within China and other countries, it is necessary to expand the initiative and include hotels in other markets,” said Ray Chen, CEO of accommodation business at Trip.com Group.

The hoteliers join over 250,000 China hotels who have already responded to Trip.com Group’s earlier call on Jan 23 to allow customers to cancel their hotel bookings free of charge, also with check-in dates from now until 24:00 Feb 8.

On Jan 24, Trip.com Group offered a self-cancellation service by which Chinese travellers may cancel their bookings made with hotels participating in its ‘Cancellation Guarantee’ initiative.

At the time of this post, the Group continues to coordinate with more hotels to offer rescheduled reservations or refundable cancellations for their customers.

Other bookings made on flights, trains, attractions and cars for use in Mainland China are also up for cancellation provisions on Ctrip.com’s statement made regarding the coronavirus virus.

“The safety and well-being of our travellers and the community is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the developments closely, and will thereafter take further action, whenever necessary,” Ray Chen, CEO of accommodation business at Trip.com Group.
