The show also serves as a showcase for Japanese food, recent trends, technological advancements, seasonal produce and specialities from various prefectures. This year, almost 40 prefectures will be represented with many showcasing items that are yet to be found in Southeast Asia.
Now in its sixth year, Food Japan will return to Singapore’s Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre where it will once again provide a platform for F&B businesses in Japan and Southeast Asia to come together and look for ways in which they can work together.

This instalment of the show will feature food trends in Japan today, including ‘Functional Food’ and ‘Elder Care Food’ as well as produce from the Tohoku region.
Functional Food is either whole or fortified food that provides various health benefits. Japan is considered by many to be the spiritual home for these kinds of foods, thanks to Yakult kicking off the trend in the 1950s, and today over 1,000 new products are released onto the market every year.
Japan’s growing population of elderly people has also seen a spike in what is being called ‘Elder Care Food,’ foods that are appealing but do not present a choking hazard.
“All restaurateurs and F&B professionals want to be in the Southeast Asian market and the demand for Japanese ingredients, innovations and food products is high,” said Masanao Nishida, Director of Food Japan. “We are thrilled that Food Japan serves as a strategic platform that connects relevant business parties together. We’re committed to bringing in only the best, the most innovative, and the latest ingredients and trends to Southeast Asia and we are certain that the Southeast Asian market is ready for it.”
