The Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort has permanently closed on 10 April.
Minor Hotels, parent company of Anantara Hotels & Resorts, confirmed the closure. A joint statement with the property’s owning entity, Seven Tides, attributed the shutdown to "a combination of external factors” rather an a single issue.
The 70-room resort opened in early 2022 on the Dubai World Islands archipelago, located roughly 4,000 metres off Dubai's coast. It was also the first luxury hotel to debut on the man-made island.
Minor Hotels has said it "remains committed" to the rest of its portfolio in the United Arab Emirates, which includes Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort, Anantara Retreat Santorini Abu Dhabi, Anantara Mina Ras Al Khaimah Resort, Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, Dukes The Palm Dubai Hotel, NH Collection Dubai The Palm and Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate Dubai.
The closure comes as Dubai tourism reels from the impacts of the Iran war.
Several hotels in the city have used the downturn to close for revamps, though some of these renovation were planned already.
The iconic Jumeirah Burj Al Arab is set to undergo a phased renovation for approximately 18 months.
The St Regis Dubai, The Palm has closed for renovations since mid-April, although some parts of the hotel remain operational.
Park Hyatt Dubai will close for renovations next month in May and will reopen sometime later this year.
Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City will close 30 April for renovations works, although catering services will run until December 2026.
Meanwhile, the Armani Hotel Dubai announced on Instagram on 2 April that it had "entered a period of refinement”. No reopening date has been announced, although bookings on the website are currently blacked out until 3 January 2027.
