Holland America Line and Seabourn will be increasing Taiwan port calls from 2028 through 2029, including launching Taiwan-centered itineraries calling at six major ports.
The announcement follows earlier familiarisation trips to Taiwan by both cruise brands in November 2025, jointly hosted by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and TIPC-Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA).
“Taiwan is not merely a stopover for Asia Pacific (APAC) cruise voyages, but a destination overflowing with cultural appeal,” said Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) chairman Yung-hui Chou.
Seabourn has confirmed plans to make Taiwan a key deployment focus of business development starting 2028. Themed ‘Unique Experiences and Surprising Discoveries in Every Port’, the cruise line’s upcoming Taiwan-centric itineraries will call at six major ports: Keelung, Hualien, Taichung, Anping, Kaohsiung and Penghu.
Itineraries will connect multiple Taiwan ports. The February 2028 voyage for instance covers Hualien, Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Anping, while the February 2029 voyage will feature Magong (Penghu) Port.
Beyond increasing the number of cruise ship calls, Chou noted that the announcement signals Taiwan’s profile as “a key player in the global elite traveller” market.
TIPC added that the fly-cruise model is also tracking interest in the international circuit.
Part of a delegation comprising EVA Air and China Airlines, the port authority said that “many international cruise lines explored integrating Taiwan more closely into their Asia routes, adding new calls at Taiwan’s port cluster, and developing the potential of other unique and innovative Taiwan itineraries”.
Looking ahead, TIPC has expressed plans to elevate Taiwan’s visibility in the APAC cruise market such as by widening its presence in international exhibitions, meeting with industry partners, improving related port infrastructure, offering port fee discounts and other incentives, and strengthening cooperation and partnerships with cruise lines across the world.
