On 30 July, SJM Resorts opened the doors to the US$5 billion flagship Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, the first and largest of its three hotel towers slated to launch in phases over the next few months.
"A monumental amount of effort has gone into making this project a reality and it is our aim to diversify Macau’s tourism landscape by bringing in unique elements," said Daisy Ho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM.
Paying homage to Macau's cross-cultural heritage, the 1,350-key luxury hotel features design elements showcasing Europe's Neoclassical and Belle Époque periods interwoven with traditional Chinese motifs.
Rooms and suites, for instance, sport a contemporary and Chinoiserie-inspired design dotted with bespoke art pieces depicting old and new Macau. The European-styled gardens 'Jardim Secreto', which is reserved for guests only, also doubles as an outdoor event venue.
Amenities include indoor and outdoor temperature-controlled swimming pools in Macanese and Baroque designs, state-of-the-art gym, and an initial list of six F&B options. These include The Grand Buffet; Portuguese fare at Mesa; classic tea house Chalou; Taiwanese hotpot at Wulao; as well as casual dining at Eight Treasures and GLP Lobby Lounge.

Event venues at the integrated resort span 3,800sqm. Taking the highlight is the 1,400sqm Grand Pavilion, which offers a sunlit, pillar-less space with built-in projection mapping technology, and can accommodate up to 780 guests in round-table banquets or 1,500 guests in a cocktail setting.
Coming up in the next phases are the designer-house branded Karl Lagerfeld Hotel and Asia's first Palazzo Versace Macau. Both will offer 270 rooms and suites each, in addition to their own wellness facilities and restaurants.
