Mandarin Oriental is set to open its first urban resort in Northwestern China with the debut of Mandarin Oriental, Xi’an, planned for 2029. The new property will be located in Xi’an, a city known for its rich imperial history and landmarks such as the Terracotta Warriors.

The resort will feature 166 rooms and suites, each with outdoor terraces, natural hot spring experiences, and views of a nearby newly developed park. Additionally, seven private villas with terraces and pools will be available, offering exclusivity unique to Xi’an.

A key feature will be The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, which will include wellness and beauty treatments alongside natural hot spring pavilions. The hotel will also offer a 50-metre indoor-outdoor infinity pool, a children’s pool, and wellness programmes focused on holistic wellbeing.

Designed by ACPV ARCHITECTS, the hotel’s architecture and interiors will use natural materials and draw inspiration from Xi’an’s seasons and cultural heritage. Dining options will include five venues, with a Chinese specialty restaurant featuring local cuisine.

The resort will also have social and event spaces, including a 1,200-square-metre ballroom with outdoor terraces overlooking the park. Additional guest facilities will include children’s indoor and outdoor play areas, an art and culture gallery, a library, a retail boutique, and entertainment venues.

Laurent Kleitman, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental, said, “We are thrilled to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service and immersive wellness ethos to Xi’an. This resort reflects our focus on growing in iconic leisure destinations, where guests can enjoy experiences that feel both immersive and timeless.”

Xudong Zi, general manager of Xi’an Wolong Real Estate, added, “Our shared vision, supported by Qujiang Government, is to create a destination that harmonises the city’s heritage, natural beauty and contemporary design.”
