Travelling between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru is about to get faster and more comfortable.
Starting 12 December 2025, Malaysia’s new electric train service (ETS) will connect the two cities in approximately 4.5 hours, a significant improvement over the five- to seven-hour road journey.
The new service marks the completion of the long-awaited 192km Gemas–Johor Bahru electrified double-track project, a major upgrade aimed at easing southern corridor travel.
The new six-coach train accommodates 312 passengers, with five standard coaches and one business-class coach. Onboard facilities include four toilets, a bistro serving meals, plug points at every seat and a Muslim prayer room.
Business-class passengers enjoy added comfort with wider seating, a private toilet, complimentary meals, personal TV screens with free WiFi, movies, an in-seat route map and a meal-ordering system.
There will be four daily services on the KL Sentral–JB Sentral route:
From 1 January 2026, the first KL departure time will shift slightly to 7.55am.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd expects strong demand, especially during the year-end school holidays and rising cross-border traffic from Singapore.
