Peter Pottinga has been appointed general manager of the upcoming InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping. Prior to the hotel’s launch, Pottinga is already getting his hands dirty with overseeing all aspects of the hotel’s pre-opening and opening phases.

Pottinga joins InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping after holding various GM positions Holiday Inn London Heathrow Ariel, Crowne Plaza Bratislava, Crowne Plaza Hotel & Suites Landmark Shenzhen, Harbour Grand Kowloon, and InterContinental Budapest.

His appointment with the InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping brings him back to the country of his childhood where he graduated high school from the International School Bangkok.

A native of Holland, Pottinga began his hospitality career in 1997 with Des Indes InterContinental, The Hague and the InterContinental New Orleans, moving up the ranks from night manager to rooms division manager. He then moved on to become hotel manager at the InterContinental The George Edinburgh and Crowne Plaza London Heathrow.

Pottinga said: “By blending the region’s tantalising cuisine, the handiwork of local artisans, and northern Thai history with the well-loved hallmarks of the world’s first and largest international luxury hotel brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, we aim to create a guest experience that promotes cultural and artistic traditions of the Lanna people.”
