Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) has named seasoned hotelier Nick Downing as General Manager of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok. His appointment marks the first of several senior hires ahead of the riverside hotel’s opening in late 2026.
Downing brings over 30 years of luxury hospitality experience across Southeast Asia, Australia and the Indian Ocean. He was most recently General Manager of The Siam in Bangkok, where he led the property to international recognition, including a spot on the World’s 50 Best Hotels list and a Michelin three-key distinction.
His previous roles include senior leadership positions at Minor Hotel Group, where he oversaw 12 properties, W Retreat Koh Samui, and Per Aquum Hotels & Resorts. Downing will report to Sherona Shng, LHG’s Regional Vice President – Operations, Asia.
“This appointment is a clear statement of intent,” said Shng. “We are building The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok to be one of the most distinctive and desirable hotels in the region. Nick’s ability to elevate properties into cultural icons, with a focus on people, partnerships and place, makes him the ideal person to bring the extraordinary hotel to life.”
Developed by Rabbit Holdings, a subsidiary of BTS Group, the 78-key hotel will be located in Bangkok’s Bang Rak District. It will feature the restored Custom House building, a historic landmark along the Chao Phraya River.
Key highlights of the property include an outpost of T’ang Court – the three-Michelin-star Cantonese restaurant from The Langham, Hong Kong – a destination bar and a venue specialising in pastry creations.
