The Grand Hotel Taipei, a landmark property located near Yuanshan in Zhongshan District, has confirmed that its security systems had been breached.

The 74-year hotel, also Taiwan’s first five-star hotel, said that it had discovered the illegal intrusion earlier on Tuesday, 17 February.

It had immediately activated its “highest-level cybersecurity incident response measures”, which included isolating affected systems, conducting forensic investigations and risk assessment, strengthening account and access control mechanisms, and enhancing monitoring and security protection. Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau is also investigating the issue.

Actual content and extent of affected data remain to be disclosed after final forensic confirmation.

It posted a fraud alert notice in Korean, Japanese, English and Mandarin on 20 February, urging guests to remain vigilant and to reach out to the hotel directly in the event of suspicious calls, text messages or notifications claiming to be from the Grand Hotel Taipei.

It added that the hotel’s operations remain unaffected, with accommodations across its 500 rooms, dining and membership services operating as normal.
