The Breakfast Alarm Clock offers three aromas that Holiday Inn Express guests love the most.

Fancy waking up in the morning to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee? Or freshly baked blueberry muffins?

If so, a stay at IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Holiday Inn Express in Singapore or Thailand might be called for.

The hotel group is rolling out the Breakfast Alarm Clock, the world’s first scent-based alarm clock created by a hotel brand.

Inspired by insights from The Great Asia Pacific Wake-Up regional study, which revealed that travellers often lose parts of their morning routine, such as skipping breakfast when on the go, Holiday Inn Express has decided to make mornings less stressful.

The experience is available in Singapore until 22 October across participating Holiday Inn Express hotels, and in Thailand from 6-27 November.

The concept was inspired by insights from the study, which found that 58% of Asia Pacific travellers felt a pleasant smell helps, or would help, them feel better when they wake up.

When asked which scents would lift their morning mood, respondents named coffee or tea (56%), baked goods (38%), and fresh fruit (30%).

These top picks have now been bottled into three deliciously familiar wake-up scents available with the Breakfast Alarm Clock: Coffee, Blueberry Muffin and Mango.

“We’ve intentionally designed the Holiday Inn Express experience with the best of both worlds: everything needed for a proper night’s sleep, plus a free hot breakfast,” said Dean Jones, IHG vice president of commercial, East Asia and Pacific.

“Small comforts can make a big difference when travelling.”
