A second ‘heritage’ capsule hotel under the CUBE boutique capsule hotel has opened in Singapore’s Kampong Glam, adding to a growing number of such pint-sized accommodations in the city.
Operated by RB Hospitality, the 56-bed capsule hotel takes up residence in a restored shophouse in the Malay heritage district, with a choice of single- or queen-sized beds.
“Kampong Glam is chosen for its vibrancy, charm and rich heritage culture. In addition to the Sultan Mosque and the Malay Heritage Centre, there are a number of shops, cafes, restaurants and other bustling sites such as the hip Haji Lane,” said Sonia Anya Tay, chief operating officer and co-founder, RB Hospitality.
Each capsule has its own temperature and air-flow plus insulation to reduce ambient noise, and is fitted with features such as a universal electrical outlet, safe, mirror and vanity area, bedside light, hanging hooks for garments and a locker drawer with digital locks for storage.
The hotel features room configurations that of between two and 18 capsules. Female travellers can opt to stay in women-only rooms for security and privacy.
Guests will have access to the hotel’s shared bathrooms, which are equipped with standing showers, hairdryer and bath toiletries. A dental kit, slippers and towel will be provided upon check-in and are exchangeable daily.
The hotel also offers standard hotel features such as daily housekeeping, 24-hour concierge, airport pickups, free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Other shared amenities include a self-service washing machine with complimentary detergent, and for travellers on business, work desks are also available for use.
For daily breakfasts, guests can head to the hotel’s communal dining area, where they will have a range of options, from Japanese to halal and local offerings. Guests can also opt for food delivery via a smartphone tech platform, the Dining Butler.
In the hotel’s lobby is the Singapore Visitor Centre, where guests can book tours and receive tourist information on the city’s sights.
The second opening joins RB Hospitality’s first CUBE branded property in Chinatown in 2016. There are plans to grow this number to eight such hotels in prime locations around Singapore over the next few years, Tay adds.
