The Banyan Group has unveiled its flagship Banyan Tree brand in Japan, with the opening of Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto.
The hotel’s debut in the heart of Kyoto’s historic Higashiyama Ward
expands Banyan Group's multi-brand presence in Japan to eight hotels
across five brands – Banyan Tree, Garrya, Dhawa, Folio, and Homm, with
four more hotels in the pipeline - Banyan Tree Ashinoko Hakone, Banyan
Tree Hakuba, Cassia Hirafu Niseko, and Dhawa Ballpark Hokkaido.
The 52-room Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto includes the Banyan Tree
Spa, gender-separated, public Onsen baths, two distinctive dining
experiences, and is the only hotel in Kyoto with a Noh stage.
Noh is a form of theatre involving music, dance and drama, originating in the 14th century.
In a further link to Japanese culture, guests have the opportunity to
make a private visit to the studio of master artisan Mitsue Nakamura,
where they will witness the craftsmanship involved in creating Noh
masks, each one a testament to the centuries-old traditions of Noh
theatre, an art form celebrated globally and honoured by UNESCO as a
World Intangible Cultural Treasure.
Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto guest rooms feature large Hiba wood
bathtubs, tatami mats, natural wood elements, and gold leaf accents.
Room types include those with panoramic views of Kyoto city and
Retreat rooms with private Onsen baths overlooking the small garden or a
bamboo garden and the Noh Stage.
Dining options include Ryozen, an exclusive Kappo-style restaurant
with a capacity of 48 patrons, including a private room for up to 10
guests.
Bar Ryozen features a selection of Japanese sake and cocktails. The
Sake Tasting Sets include more than 30 local and premium sakes,
including rare finds.
