A 20-year-old tourist experienced a harrowing incident while
travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru (JB) on 25 June 2024, when
she became trapped in the luggage compartment of a Malaysian transport
company's bus.
The passenger, known online as "Little Fairy," shared her experience
on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. Upon arrival in JB
around 5:50 pm, she climbed into the luggage compartment to retrieve her
suitcase that was deep inside but found herself trapped when the door
closed behind her.
"I turned around and hit the compartment door with my hands. But
nobody could hear me," she wrote. "You can't understand how I felt at
the time...I hope nobody else will have to go through such a frightening
experience."
Unable to attract attention, she called the bus operator's number
from her booking confirmation. Her initial attempts to get help were
unsuccessful, with the first call ending abruptly and a text message
left unread.

As she began feeling breathless and dizzy, she made another call.
"She was very rude and asked me where I was, and why I was in the
compartment," the passenger recounted about the woman who answered.
After more than 10 minutes, the bus pulled over, and she was
released. The driver reportedly smiled and said he thought she had
already left, which upset the passenger further: "Without even
apologising!" she wrote. "I really burst into tears."
The bus company later apologised to the passenger's boyfriend,
explaining that the driver hadn't seen her due to heavy rain. They
stated, "We immediately took necessary action on the mentioned driver
and staff for not informing us of this issue beforehand. We sincerely
apologise for the inconvenience and distress your girlfriend
experienced."
The company assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
