The Buddhist temple, located in the city of Ayutthaya Historical Park, will abide by the new opening hours with effect from Sunday until the end of next month, the office said in a message on its Facebook account.

Tourists will have the rare experience of seeing Thailand’s Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a UNESCO World Heritage site, at dusk with the extension of the temple’s closing time to 9 p.m. starting Sunday.

The Buddhist temple, located in the city of Ayutthaya Historical Park, will abide by the new opening hours with effect from Sunday until the end of next month, the office said in a message on its Facebook account.

The temple, situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River outside Ayutthaya island, is normally open from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m..

The decision to extend opening hours was prompted after visitor numbers more than doubled in the wake of the popular romantic comedy, Bupphaesannivas (Love Destiny). The temple was one of the locations featured in the television series.

Thailand’s other temples featured in the series have also experienced a rising number of visitors.

Pol Lt Col Ekkachai Saensradee, the deputy superintendent of Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya police station, said on Sunday police will stay late at night to direct traffic and prevent crime during the temple’s extended opening hours, reported The Bangkok Post.
