Dream Cruises is bringing a taste of Broadway to the high seas with the launch of Forever Broadway, an exclusive musical production created for Genting Dream as part of the cruise line's 10th anniversary celebrations.
Premiering on 5 June, the show marks a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Dream Cruises and Broadway Asia International, bringing together a team with credits spanning acclaimed productions such as Nanta, Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music.
Specially reimagined for the Asian cruise audience, the show featured hits including New York New York, Dancing Queen, Grease Lightning, Tonight and _On Broadway, _woven together through song and dance performances, cinematic staging, special effects and large recorded 33-piece orchestral specially scored for Genting Dream.
The project was spearheaded by Colin Kerr, StarDream Cruises’ senior vice president of entertainment, and Sviatlana Burkun, StarDream Cruises’ vice president of entertainment, who sought to blend Broadway artistry with Dream Cruises' production vision and understanding of Asian audience preferences.
The musical was birthed from a vision to “bring the emotional power of Broadway to life, in a way that feels intimate and dynamic,” shared Burkun, speaking during the 5 June special preview during the Singapore port stay. “It’s truly a one-of-a-kind show at sea, where the Broadway spirit meets Dream Cruises' spirit with an Asian flavour.”
The debut comes as StarDream Cruises, parent of Dream Cruises and Star Cruises, continue investing heavily on entertainment and experiences as a key point of differentiation. For Dream Cruises, onboard programming has long been a core part of its guest proposition, particularly as it caters to diverse source markets across Asia.
“Today’s guests are looking for experiences that feel familiar yet reimagined in exciting new ways,” added president Michael Goh. “This is why over the last 10 years, you can see we’ve been going into creating different theming and programming to make sure in the different locations we operate, we create our own character and experience for our customers.”
For director and choreographer James Gray, Genting Dream's purpose-built theatre provided an opportunity to push the production beyond what is typically possible at sea. “It crosses every generation, and there’s nothing like live theatre.”
Highlighting the venue's technical capabilities, Gray noted that the theatre's revolving stage, elevators and custom-built set pieces allowed the team to create moments rarely seen aboard a cruise ship.
“I am certain this phenomenal, high-energy Broadway musical revue will touch the hearts of Asian audiences and leave them singing and dancing throughout this exclusive performance,” said Simone Genatt, Creative Producer and Founder of Broadway Asia International.
Extending the Forever Broadway experience beyond the stage, Dream Cruises has also rolled out a fashion collaboration with Design Orchard Singapore and regional brands Bohème by Véro, Frey and Raja Rani. Their apparel and accessories are incorporated into the production's costumes and featured in a runway-inspired finale, while selected merchandise is available for purchase onboard.
Forever Broadway will run twice for all sailings until 10 February 2027.
